    Whilst mystery surrounds the true origin story of Earl Grey tea, the earliest reference to black tea flavoured with the bergamot orange, a citrus heralding from Calabria Italy, date back to 1824.

    Historically a "posh" drop, Earl Grey tea has been popularised in more recent times thanks to its cameo in pop culture cult classic Star Trek Next Generation, where famed actor Patrick Stewart's character Captain Jean-Luc Picard repeatedly ordered it from the replicator by commanding “Tea. Earl Grey. Hot” and enjoying it in his ready room, quarters, or during diplomatic on the USS Enterprise space craft.
